Cornerwise Car Escape Tool - Window Breaker & Seatbelt Cutter

In a serious crash the battery is usually the first thing to go, and when it goes the power windows and the central locking go with it. Add a seatbelt pulled tight under your own body weight and an ordinary car becomes very hard to leave. Cornerwise does the two things firefighters are trained to do: it breaks the side window, and it cuts the belt.

What it does

• Breaks a tempered side window in one press. A spring drives the hardened tip, so the force comes from the tool and not from you. It works with shaking hands, from an awkward angle, or upside down.
• Cuts a jammed seatbelt. The blade sits recessed inside a channel. Feed the webbing in and draw it through. Your fingers cannot reach the edge, which matters in the dark.
• Small enough that you will actually carry it. It lives on a keychain or clips to a visor. An escape tool in the boot is not an escape tool.
• Nothing to charge and nothing to expire. No battery, no electronics. Press it in five years and it fires the same way.

How to use it

To break the glass: hold it in your fist and press the tip firmly into a corner of the side window. Corners are where tempered glass is weakest. Clear the remaining glass and climb out.

To cut the belt: pull the cover off the cutting end, feed the belt into the channel, and draw the cutter through in one pass.

Important safety information

Cornerwise is designed for tempered automotive side glass. It will not break laminated glass, which many vehicles now use for windscreens and, increasingly, for front side windows. Check your vehicle: laminated panes are usually marked on the glass itself. Cornerwise is an emergency escape tool and not a substitute for a seatbelt, safe driving, or professional rescue.
